Afterlight
Afterlight
Afterlight is a short, sound-driven narrative game designed to be playable without relying on visuals.
You wake up alone on a spacecraft orbiting a black hole.
The ship’s AI informs you that its task is complete, and that it is preparing to cross the event horizon.
Before it does, it asks for your input.
The experience plays out entirely through voice and sound. There are no visible dialogue trees, no prompts that explain what you “should” do, and no feedback about how your responses are being interpreted.
How to play
-
You respond using the numpad keys (1–9).
-
The layout of the keys matters. They form a 3×3 grid.
-
Your choice is not treated as a spoken answer, but as a directional response.
The game keeps track of how you respond internally. You won’t see scores, branches, or explanations.
What kind of game is this
Afterlight is not about finding the best answer.
It’s about making decisions with incomplete information and living with the outcome.
The game is short, but deliberate. Some moments take their time. Others end abruptly.
Accessibility
All essential information is conveyed through audio alone.
The game is fully playable with the screen blacked out or eyes closed, and does not require a screen reader.
Headphones are recommended.
Content note
This experience includes themes of responsibility, uncertainty, and final decisions.

Wow, the interface idea is really great, I love it!! I must admit that I don't understand the synthetic voice very well (not being a native english speaker probably doesn't help). But this kind of 2 dimensional array of responses is really nice!
Congrats!
Thank you!! I really appreciate that 🙂
Totally fair point about the voice — I pushed the texture pretty far, and I can see how that’d be tougher for non-native English speakers. Super good feedback.
Really glad the 2D response idea landed though — that was the main experiment here.
Thanks again for the jam! I had a lot of fun making this.
